If i remember correctly,the time Rukia got sentenced to death Aizen killed all the people of the Central 46 and was giving the orders so he ordered them to kill for the Hogyoku inside her.This time,though,the real Central 46 gave the decision so thats why tbe decision was lenient in comparison to the death sentence Rukia received

I believe Aizen planned all of this, well to be more specific the Hogyoku. If the Hogyoku’s role is to make wishes come true and if Aizen was truly lonely and his dream was to find an equal maybe Aizen/Hogyoku cultivated Ichigo’s powers just so Aizen could find an equal and make his wish come true. When he finally found it in Ichigo, there was nothing left for him to fight for.

Maybe subconsciously to some extent since Ichigo brought it up but it I think his plan was to cultivate Ichigo's powers so that he could feed it to his hougyoku and achieve his ultimate form with which he would fight to free himself from, what he viewed as, the Soul King's subjugation. Maybe being so much more powerful than his peers drove him to search for meaning in his power and something to do with it, freeing himself from the rule of, what I'm assuming is, the most powerful entity in the world would, likely, come across as a worthy goal.

Or it was a part of Hogyoku's plan. Hogyoku known for an object which can change fate, destiny, and create phenomenon of one's will around it as long as those with the strength to carried them out and it have a will on its own. It's probably know that Aizen's body is not ready for another evolution yet after witness Ichigo's power or feeling that they would be another higher being who could be a threat to Aizen or waiting to strengthen itself for Aizen's end goal or it want to strengthen Aizen little by little for the time being he was sealed in the jail because Hogyoku can only manifest the desires of those with the strength to carry them out. Rn, Hogyoku still inside Aizen so i doubt that it rejected him as Urahara said and i think it's still recognized Aizen as its master as Ichigo said. Hogyoku is kinda mysteries, now that we know it have a will on its own. They were a lot of theories and excuses that can make from Hogyoku. It's just another theories btw in case they want to continue the story of Bleach.
